Chopped Winner Chef Martha Esquivel Revamps Cafe La Boheme's Menu
Chef Martha Esquivel, Food Network's Chopped "Better Safran than Sorry" winner, was recently brought to this WeHo mainstay to update the menu and add her unique touch to redefine classic Cafe La Boheme's dishes.

We started our dinner with a couple of appetizers, which included the potato and leek flat bread with Romano cheese, chives and true oil; and the octopus with lime, radish and cilantro (not on the menu).
Both were good, but the flat bread was surprisingly flavorful and worth ordering as a single happy hour dish.
For our main course, we tried three different dishes including the pork chop, served with butternut squash puree, grilled treviso, apple and fennel campote; the baby lamb chops, served with Israeli cous cous, spinach, eggplant, chickpeas and turmeric broth; and the pan seared sea bass, which was served with purple potatoes, chanterelle mushrooms, and jasmine tea sauce.
All three dishes were amazing, but the sea bass was superb! All the flavors blended nicely and the sauce was a welcome dash of flavor to the light and flakey fish.
For our dessert, we shared the goat cheese cake, garnished with balsamic berries, mint and taro; the creme brûlée trio; the double chocolate bread pudding, served with chocolate sauce, chocolate truffle and chantilly cream; and the butterscotch pudding with dark chocolate mousse, garnished with chantilly cream.
While our dessert selection seemed a bit strong and quite overpowering, in comparison the the subtle flavors of dinner, the butterscotch pudding was the unexpected favorite.
